With the fickleness common to most gardeners the list of my favourite tulips is constantly changing. This one has been on the list since I first came across it a few years ago. The flowers have the shallow bowl shape of English Florists’ tulips and the orange petals are suffused with bronze. It is the result of a long breeding programme that came to fruition in Holland in the 1990s. The colour evokes that of long-lost, old-fashioned tulips.
The sight of a group of them backlit by the low April sunshine will make you catch your breath. They grow to about 40cm tall
